Cheap but Great Phone Deals

You hate to pay too much money for a cell phone, but you also want a good mix of features. In order to find a solid phone without shelling out a bunch of cash, you need to focus on getting the best deal you can. Of course, you don’t want to go too cheap with it. You’re also looking for something great.

Great phone deals start with great phone plans. You might look into great phone plans that allow you to pay a certain amount per month for a certain amount of talk time, texting and data. These plans allow you a lot of flexibility to get done whatever you want, with a lot of predictability. Consider looking into prepaid phones for unlimited calling options.

The second part of a great deal is the phone itself. Naturally, every phone has its advantages and disadvantages, which you’ll learn when you read a review. If a phone has all of the features you want, you can search for the best deal on it. If your ideal phone is at a reasonable price, you should get it.

A great phone deal goes beyond the phone and the plan, however. It also comes down to the value. Your phone and your plan need to give you everything you want, or it won’t matter how cheap they are. A cheap plan that doesn’t give you all you want, even if the phone is free, still isn’t much of a value. Seek out a solid value.

The Freedom to Be Mobile

Technology has come a long way from thick monitors and green screens. Back then, they functioned in a utilitarian way. Sure, our computers still remain workhorses in offices and homes. But once handheld devices advanced into the consumer arena, people everywhere fell for the freedom of mobility.

It’s hard to pinpoint the exact history of the first laptop. But many historical researchers agree on the Osborne 1. The 1981 portable computer weighed 24 pounds and had a 5 inch screen. MSI’s newest generation of laptops, the X460 and X460DX, weigh in at a mere 1.98 kg and come with either a Core i5 or Core i7 processor. Even though it is less than an inch thick, consumers are able to opt for a second internal hard drive to boost storage capacity.

When Apple unleashed the iPad on the hungry public, it didn’t take long for other companies to unveil tablets of their own. The Toshiba Thrive 16GB tablet looks sharp and uses Android 3.1 technology. The Samsung Galaxy Tab comes with a 10.1 inch TFT Active Matrix display and NVidia Tegra 2 1 GHz processor.

Cellphones and eReaders also make your mobile live sweeter. The Barnes & Noble NookColor lacks an e-ink display, making it a mini-tablet as well. With a slot for a MicroSD card, consumers can increase its internal storage capabilities. Be on the lookout for the Motorola Dinara, slated to be released later this year. Motorola’s super phone is expected to contain an HD touchscreen, 13MP rear camera, TI processor and 1GB of Ram.

Must-Have iPad Software Business Apps

Apple’s iPad has become one of the most widely-used electronic tools in business. It functions very much like a laptop, but takes up as much space as a few sheets of paper, which explains why it’s a favorite for business trips. With a large display, the iPad works well for presenting images and video, while users stay connected with its seamless WiFi capability. Also, it is compatible with nearly any file type. But what makes the iPad really appealing is the choice of business apps.

With the right business apps even the most far-flung associate can successfully work remotely. That’s because useful apps can duplicate many of the same tasks that were once done only in the confines of a physical office. Business apps allow users to attend meetings online and conduct presentations; link to the files on their computers; and track working hours and billing invoices. A selection of the must-have business apps for the iPad include:

  • GoToMeeting
  • Keynote
  • Pages
  • Mariner Calc
  • Bento
  • PrintCentral

There is still the question as to how apps for the iPad can help a business. Most apparent is the fact they provide employees greater mobility. With access to important business documents, these apps give users the capability to work at any given time. Mobility and access save businesses the money and time that is typically lost while an employee is in transit. Meanwhile, business trips become more creative and successful when clients are presented with fully animated and interactive presentations that are only possible with these must-have business apps.

Xoom into the Future of Web Tablets

Motorola XOOM

The Motorola Xoom (pronounced “zoom”) is a web tablet that will operate on Verizon Wireless’ network and become available as a 3G model during the first few months of 2011. Upgrades to 4G LTE will be available shortly thereafter.

The Xoom, competing against Apple’s iPad, will become the first web tablet device to operate using Google’s Android operating system, Honeycomb. Honeycomb enables multitasking and is designed specifically for tablets.

The Xoom is equipped with a dual-core processor. Each processor runs at 1 GHz. Its 10.1 inch display (iPad has 9.7 inches) has 1,280×800 resolution (iPad has 1,024×768), with 16:10 aspect ratio. The tablet has dual cameras. The front-facing 2-mg pix camera allows video chats via Wi-Fi or 3G/4G LTE. It also enables HDMI output for displaying content on larger HD monitors. The rear-facing 5MP camera captures 720p video in HD, and features a 10-inch viewfinder and flash.

The Xoom supports Google Maps 5.0 with 3D buildings. Xoom web tablet enables tab-based browsing, access to over 3 million Google e-book and thousands of Android apps, and movies. The Google apps and widgets are designed specifically for tablets and tablet technology. Using Adobe Flash Player, users can play HD video and other web content. Motorola indicates a Wi-Fi-only version is not planned. There is no internal GPS.

Xoom accessories include a leather case that also serves as a stand, a standard dock for charging and display, and a 3-USB port HD docking station with built-in speakers.

The Xoom offers more features and functionality than the iPad. The Xoom’s dual camera system, larger display screen, higher screen resolution, and Adobe Flash compatibility are unmatched by iPad. Xoom uses Verizon instead of AT & T for its network.

Critics suggest the Xoom should not require a data carrier plan and should use WiFi or tethering like a netbook. Other Android-based tablets from T-Mobile and LG Mobile Phones are in development that will run Honeycomb on T-Mobile’s HSPDA+ 4G network.

Finding the Latest Gaming Consoles

Gaming is a lot of fun, and it can also be healthy and educational when it’s done the right way. Some of the latest gaming consoles are specifically designed to ensure that you get exercise and that you move around when you’re playing certain games. That can be a good way to stay fit and have fun at the same time. A lot of people don’t like to exercise because it feels like work. If you’re playing a game, though, it’s just enjoyable and you don’t stop to think that you’re exercising and getting healthy. That’s especially true if you’re playing with friends or other family members.

The key to enjoying your time like that is to find the right gaming console. There are several different ones, and they all do different things. The one you like the best will be up to you, of course, and a lot of people have more than one. That can sometimes help when it comes to deciding what to play, since not all games work with all consoles. If you choose a game that isn’t right for your console, you’ll have to purchase an additional console (a different brand) to play it. Doing that can be expensive, of course, so it’s very important to take a look at what consoles play what games before you make a choice.

When you look for a console, consider price, but also take a look at value. Some things cost more, but it’s generally because you get a lot more. If you’re paying more and getting less, you’re not making a wise financial decision. That can make your fun and games with your new console far less enjoyable, so you’ll want to take that all into consideration before you actually buy anything. That way you’ll get the best console for your family.

Read up on the Latest Gadgets

Anyone who likes the latest in gadgets and gizmos should spend some time reading up on them. You should do that, too, if you’re interested in what’s out there and what you can do with it. If you haven’t looked at the gadgets that are available for a while, you might be really surprised by what you find. There are a lot more than there used to be, and they have really come down in price in many cases. You can buy things inexpensively now that were virtually unaffordable for most people just a couple of years ago.

Before you buy, read reviews. You want to know what other people have to say about them. Find the kinds of reviews that are spontaneous and real – not just the ones that are plastered all over the site where the gadget is sold. That site isn’t going to use any negative reviews, only positive ones. It’s better to search online and see what others are saying, on sites where a negative review is just as likely to be posted as a positive one. That way you can get more of an unbiased review, instead of just finding good things about a product that might actually have some problems.

Technology is advancing rapidly, and it’s important in the lives of a lot of people. Still, that doesn’t mean you should run out and buy all of the latest gadgets just because they’re advertised. You want to get the things that you’re actually going to use, instead of only the things that others say you should have. Think carefully, read all the reviews, and then make your purchase choices. You’ll be a lot more likely to get something you’re happy with when you’re careful about what you buy and how quickly you rush to make a purchase.
