Why we Love Kinetic Gaming

So many people are buying game systems like the Wii just because of the kinetic gaming aspect of it all. So many people are snapping up those Kinect peripherals like they were life rafts aboard the Titanic. If might even lead a person to wonder just why in the world people are so in love with these glorious little kinetic gaming objects, anyway. If you have ever wondered about things like that, here is the reason- we are designed for these things. Now, maybe you had the silly notion that they were designed for us and by us. If you thought that way, you were completely justified in that belief. But make no mistake about it, we were designed to do things just like what the Wiimote and Kinect have us do.

That is the beauty of technology. It basically just takes what we are already doing, and systematizes it a little bit further than where we have been in the past. At one point in the time of humanity, we used to dance, swing fists and weapons at one another, and just generally go about our violently active business without there being any sort of sociability about the whole deal. This is probably why we have such a violent past as a species- without the ability to use our naturally violent tendencies in a constructive manner, we ended up causing each other harm.

So the next time you get a chance to whip out the old guitar (which might even be the most kinetic of all the gaming devices out there, as you rigorously rock out to the best of your ability), the DDR mat or even one of the more modern types of gaming devices, consider yourself fortunate. You are not in any particular danger, and you even have the potential to exercise your body without harming anybody else. If you don’t harm anybody else, their family won’t get revenge on you later.

Will Wii Fit Help Anyone?

If you have been following modern gaming for the past couple of years, you have no doubt heard of the Wii Fit game. And you get three guesses as to what console that game is native to. So what about the Wii Fit? Have you actually read it or used it, or do you just go by what someone said that their brother’s friend did with it? Well, it is based on a game designer who became obsessed with weighing himself as he began to get a little bit older, and decided that a game based on the pursuit of health through objective criteria would be useful to others. One might even say that, like a lot of designers, this guy might have just been making something he would like, and then everybody else use it.

That’s fine. It isn’t really that important what the original designer liked or not. The big deal is, will Wii Fit help the average person who uses it to actually become more healthy? We have a society right now who are in dire need of exercise, and apparently are also in need of a little bit of nudging in the direction of doing, instead of merely reading more and more about concepts which they will never apply. If you are sitting here reading this, remember that you need to go take breaks every so often, just to get your blood pumping a little bit faster.

The answer to the question which titles this article is going to have to remain in the realm of “maybe,” if for no other reason than that no one can accurately and completely predict the future. While there might be some extremely wealthy person out there who can, most of us are just guessing our way through things. But like everything else in life, Wii Fit depends on people actually using it, in order to be effective. It’s great, if you actually use it.

Watch out for Wiimote Wildness

If you have ever used the Wiimote, you are no doubt aware of all the dangers that kinetic gaming represents for you. If you are in terrible shape, you might give yourself a sprain, or even suffer from chest pains. But there is another kind of danger that can even affect the best athletes among us- a damaged home and property caused by getting absolutely crazy with the Wiimote. If you have been practicing your golf swing, your backhand, getting in some swordplay or even boxing, you have the possibility of being very destructive to your home environment. And while it might be fun in the moment, a lot of people are accidentally causing property damage to pretty much everything unfortunate enough to be in the room they are in while they get nuts.

A little bit of Wii sanity can go a long way, you know. After all, they call it kinetic gaming, not “let’s force ourselves to go out and buy new furniture” gaming. If nothing else, the latter’s title is just too long to be practical in the least. This is why you have to offer up a little bit of discretion when you get your game on- your furniture does not deserve to be battered and abused by your mighty strokes of joy, you know. And for another thing, think about how much more work you’ll have to do, in order to afford this kind of destructive play.

So why would you want to have to blow all of the money you make, just on replacing all of the things you smash, shatter and slice through? That seems like some kind of a zen exercise in futility, doesn’t it? You need to exercise a little bit of control over your actions, even when you do all of these exercise related movements. After all, being able to control ourselves is what separates humanity from most of the other kinds of animals, right?
